"The Right Person to Lead the National Folk Museum's Move to Sejong"
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 7th that Jang Sang-hoon, a research curator, has been appointed as the director of the National Folk Museum.
He is an expert in the history of Korean museums who completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in the Department of History at Sogang University and earned a doctorate in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester in the UK. He joined the National Museum of Korea in 1995 and has served as head of the Exhibition Department, head of the Children's Museum, and director of the National Jinju Museum. He has also worked as a specialist member of the Cultural Heritage Committee (Movable Cultural Heritage Division) at the Cultural Heritage Administration.
Recently, he was elected president of the Korean Historical Map Research Association. He has published translations and original works such as "English Letters from Kim Jae-won, the First Director of the National Museum (2019)," "Meeting Daedongyeojido at the Museum (2007)," "Metropolis: The History of Cities Seen Through Maps (2018)," and "The History of Korean Historical Maps (2011)," gaining recognition in the academic community.

Yoo In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "He is an expert who combines deep insight and field experience," adding, "In particular, he has experience leading the relocation and construction project of the National Jinju Museum, making him the right person to lead the National Folk Museum’s move to Sejong." He further urged, "Please firmly lay the groundwork and prepare for a new leap forward in the Sejong era."
