On the 3rd, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will invest 4.5 billion KRW and 5 billion KRW respectively in the Fisheries Village New Vitality Promotion Project for Maehyang Port and Pungdo Port from 2024 to 2026, over a period of three years.
Gyeonggi Province will renovate the aging facilities of the two ports through reinforcement of piers, installation of seawater circulation channels, creation of fishermen’s resting areas, and paving of the surrounding land.
Maehyang Port in Hwaseong established and announced the basic plan for the Fisheries Village New Vitality Promotion Project on April 18, and will begin construction within this year to complete the project next year. Pungdo Port will have its basic plan reviewed by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and finalize the project plan within this year.
Gong Jeong-sik, Director of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Life Sciences Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, “Compared to the steady development of the adjacent areas, the facilities at these two ports are old and urgently need improvement. We hope this project will be a great opportunity to improve living conditions in fishing villages, and we will continue to expand project sites through ongoing participation in public contests.”
The Fisheries Village New Vitality Promotion Project is a Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries public contest project investing 30 trillion KRW in 300 locations over five years.
