"Where Am I?"... A Cat That Flew 1000km After Getting Into a Delivery Box
Cat Transported in 'Amazon' Return Package
Owner: "Loved Hiding Inside the Box... A Miracle"
A story has emerged from the United States about a cat that unknowingly got into a return package box and was found more than 1,000 km away from home.
On the 1st (local time), the Washington Post (WP) and others reported that a cat named 'Galena,' who went missing on the 10th of last month in Utah, was found six days later on the 16th of last month at an Amazon logistics warehouse in California, 1,014 km away. Galena had been transported inside a return package box for the American online shopping mall 'Amazon.' The first people to find Galena were Amazon employees.
When Brandy Hunter, an Amazon employee, found Galena in the return box, the cat was cowering in a corner of the box, seemingly terrified. Galena also refused to eat anything, likely out of fear. Hunter said, "Galena had lost her sense of direction and was very weak," adding, "It is a miracle that Galena survived." Hunter took Galena to a veterinary hospital the next day, and the examination revealed only mild dehydration with no serious issues. Fortunately, the veterinarian found a microchip implanted inside Galena’s body, confirmed her identity, and contacted her owner.
Galena’s owner, Carrie Clark, said she thought it was a prank when she received a call saying "Galena is in California." It was only after the veterinarian sent Clark the information from the microchip that she could believe it.
Previously, Clark had struggled for a week to find Galena after she disappeared from home. The call came just when she was feeling disheartened after failing to find her. Clark said, "When I heard that Galena was inside the box, my husband and I cried."
Clark explained, "Galena is usually very quiet and liked to hide inside boxes," adding, "It seems that when my husband packed shoes into a return box on the 10th of last month, Galena got inside the box." Clark said she did not hear any noise when her husband packed the shoes into the box and took it to the post office.
She added, "Pet owners should consider implanting microchips in their pets," and "Also, check Amazon boxes three times."
WP reported that the box was not perfectly sealed, allowing the cat to breathe, and the weather was neither too hot nor too cold, which helped Galena survive.
