Expectations for 'Global Hub City Development' and Focus on Economy with 'Job Creation and Busan Economic Revitalization'
Busan City will announce the results of the 'Citizen Awareness Survey on the Creation of a Global Hub City' on the 2nd.
'Creating a Global Hub City' is one of Busan City's administrative goals for 2024.
This year, the city is making it the inaugural year for Busan's leap to a global hub city and is concentrating all administrative capabilities on establishing Busan as a global hub city.
This survey was prepared to accurately understand the policy awareness of Busan citizens and to increase the citizens' perception of the 'Global Hub City' policy.
The survey was conducted online from April 12 to April 18, targeting a sample of 1,000 Busan residents aged 18 and older.
The main survey contents included ▲awareness of Busan as a global hub city ▲suitability of policy conditions and environment ▲importance of projects by sector ▲expected effects of successful establishment ▲degree of contribution to Busan's development, among others.
The key findings of this survey are as follows.
First, 65.8% of Busan citizens were aware of the 'Busan Global Hub City' policy.
As the priority area to lay the foundation for creating a global hub city, respondents selected 'logistics and base establishment,' and for environmental improvements, 'international accessibility and internal transportation network of Busan' were chosen as the top priorities.
The majority of Busan citizens responded that the global hub city is suitable for Busan's current conditions and environment (78.3%) and that it helps Busan's development (92.3%).
Moreover, when asked whether the establishment of Busan as a global hub city would strengthen Busan's status, 86.2% answered that it would, clearly showing expectations for enhancing its international standing.
Additionally, the most anticipated effect of creating a Busan global hub city was 'job creation and revitalization of Busan's economy (60.2%),' indicating that Busan citizens highly value the economic aspect of the global hub city policy.
For the successful establishment of the global hub city, 'active financial support from the central government (48.4%)' was considered most necessary, followed by 'active promotion and investment attraction by Busan City (27.6%).'
The results of this survey will be used as basic data for policy development aimed at establishing Busan as a global hub city.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “We reaffirm that the leap to a global hub city is a mission for the future of Busan and the Republic of Korea, and we will focus on creating a global hub city where citizens are happy.” He added, “Based on the results of this survey, we will accurately grasp citizens’ awareness and perception of the global hub city creation and do our best to realize it as a practical policy.”
