Gwangju Seo-gu Operates 'Naegyeote Dolbom Classroom' for Seniors
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is operating the ‘Naegyeote Dolbom Classroom’ to support the social activities of socially isolated elderly people.
The Naegyeote Dolbom Classroom was launched to strengthen preventive care by providing various lifelong learning programs for local residents vulnerable to social networks and establishing psychological and emotional support systems.
The currently operating Dolbom Classrooms are the ‘Ssangchon Care Dolbom Classroom’ at Ssangchon Comprehensive Social Welfare Center and the ‘Naeun Dolbom Classroom’ at Nongsong-dong Naeun House. These are conducted in cooperation with Gwangju Health University, Ssangchon Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and Nongsong Bityeoulchae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, linked with the HiVE (High Vocational Education Hub District) project.
The Ssangchon Care Dolbom Classroom runs programs every Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., including ▲flower tea ▲traditional games ▲rehabilitation exercises ▲baking ▲cognitive and physical training ▲making flowerpots and flower baskets. The Naeun Dolbom Classroom offers various programs daily, such as ▲pottery ▲calligraphy ▲quilting ▲art ▲horticulture ▲strength training.
Each program is conducted with fewer than 20 participants and targets integrated care recipients and elderly residents nearby with limited learning opportunities, resulting in very high participant satisfaction. Elderly individuals wishing to participate can inquire at the respective welfare centers.
Yoon Jong-seong, Smart Integrated Care Officer, stated on the 12th, “Through the Dolbom Classroom, we will do our best to provide diverse learning experiences and support social activities for communication and exchange so that the elderly can spend a healthy old age in their usual living places.”
