Lalahoho Architects’ design was ultimately selected. The winner will receive the rights for basic and detailed design.
The ‘Sasang Forest Experience Education Center’ construction project aims to complete the facility by 2026, creating a specialized forest education and wood culture experience facility for future generations of children in Sasang Park.
Selected as part of the Korea Forest Service’s ‘2023 Domestic Wood Wooden Architecture Demonstration Project,’ the project will be promoted with a total investment of 13 billion KRW (6.5 billion KRW from the national government and 6.5 billion KRW from the city government).
The winning design was highly evaluated for planning indoor and outdoor forest experience education spaces using diverse techniques under the basic concept of ‘a forest experience space meeting nature within the city.’
It dynamically configured a nature-friendly experience space where citizens can experience forest and wood culture and relax.
Additionally, the building itself actively utilized a heavy timber structure that serves as both exhibition and experience space, and based on this, it modernly reinterpreted wooden architecture leading the carbon-neutral era.
The city plans to complete the design by the first half of next year and begin construction in the second half. In particular, the city has separately secured 2.5 billion KRW to create a sensory experience forest for young children, consisting of a forest exploration trail and a forest experience playground, linked with the Forest Experience Education Center.
