Ulsan Bridge Toll Will Not Increase... Ulsan City’s Decision to Boost Economy: Toll Fee Frozen
From April 1 This Year to March 31 Next Year for One Year
Alleviating Residents' Economic Burden, Encouraging Visitor Increase
The toll fee for Ulsan Bridge will be frozen for one year from April 1 this year to March 31 next year.
On the 31st, Ulsan City announced that it froze the Ulsan Bridge toll fee to reduce the economic burden on local residents and visitors to Dong-gu area and to revitalize the local economy.
The Ulsan Bridge toll fee is adjusted annually based on the previous year's Consumer Price Index (CPI) changes, according to an agreement with the private operator, Ulsan Harbor Bridge.
Last year, the CPI was 112.71, up 3.43 (3.1%) from 2022's 109.28, which led to a 100 KRW increase in toll fees for all sections except for large vehicles on the Yeomposan Tunnel section and the bridge section this year.
Ulsan City decided to freeze the toll fee again this year, fearing that an increase would add to the burden on local residents and reduce visitors to Dong-gu.
The city will provide additional financial support of about 700 million KRW to cover the toll fee increase.
With this toll fee freeze, the cost that Ulsan City must compensate Ulsan Harbor Bridge Co., Ltd. is expected to be around 10.5 billion KRW annually, considering last year's traffic volume (55,816 vehicles/day).
Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan City, said, "Although we struggled with the toll fee increase due to inflation, we comprehensively reviewed the situation to reduce the burden on citizens and revitalize the local economy, and decided to freeze the toll fee."
