‘I am also a Beekeeping Expert!’ ...Guro-gu, Recruiting Students for Urban Beekeeping Education
Recruitment for '2024 Urban Beekeeping Education' Participants from April 1 to 5
Total 12 Sessions from April 23 to July 9...Theory Classes and Various Field Practices Included
Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) is recruiting 25 students for the '2024 Urban Beekeeping Education' from April 1 to 5.
The urban beekeeping education program has been held annually since 2021, providing leisure activities in nature within the city and contributing to the revitalization of urban agriculture.
The district has prepared a total of 12 sessions of education from April 23 to July 9, targeting Guro-gu residents and local office workers.
The classes will be held every Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Gung-dong Beekeeping Experience Center (Gung-dong 62).
Students will learn theoretical lessons including ▲ the beginning and management of beekeeping ▲ types, characteristics, life cycle of honeybees, queen bee production, swarming ▲ monthly and seasonal hive management ▲ production and quality control of beekeeping products, along with various hands-on field practices. The tuition fee is 50,000 KRW.
The district will select participants on a first-come, first-served basis through the Guro-gu Office website's integrated reservation system and notify the results individually on the 9th of this month.

A Guro-gu official said, “Through urban beekeeping education, residents can enjoy leisure activities in nature within the city and can also donate the honey harvested from the education. We hope residents show great interest in urban beekeeping.”

Meanwhile, last year, Guro-gu donated 650 bottles of acacia honey worth 11.7 million KRW, harvested through beekeeping education and beekeeping experience classes, to the Guro Senior Welfare Center, Onsu Senior Welfare Center, and Guro Food Bank Market.
