Mayor Park: "Private and Public Medical Institutions Respond Seamlessly to Maintain Emergency Medical System"
Busan City will operate the Busan-type Emergency Medical Situation Room starting from the 28th in response to the collective action of doctors.
The 'Busan-type Emergency Medical Situation Room' was established to support the work of the ambulance situation room in the Fire and Disaster Headquarters, which is responsible for coordinating patient transfers, by investing city funds. This is due to increasing difficulties in hospital-to-hospital patient transfers caused by the resignation of residents within medical institutions.
This measure follows the city's announcement on the 12th during a meeting with local medical institution heads that it will actively support the maintenance of an emergency medical system to protect citizens' lives and health, and will invest 2.1 billion KRW from the city disaster management fund for this purpose.
Eight newly hired staff members, who have completed the recruitment process, will be deployed and assigned to the ambulance situation room at the Fire and Disaster Headquarters.
The city expects that operating this situation room will prevent delays in patient transfer coordination caused by staff shortages, thereby avoiding increased fatigue among medical personnel within medical institutions and situations where patients cannot receive timely treatment.
Additionally, it is anticipated that the workload fatigue caused by the increased transfer duties within medical institutions will be alleviated, allowing medical staff to focus more on patient care.
The city is implementing various measures using the city disaster management fund to maintain the emergency medical system.
To support medical personnel who silently protect the field and dedicate themselves to patient care, the city has invested 1.43 billion KRW from the disaster management fund to cover personnel costs such as night duty pay for medical staff at 29 emergency medical institutions within the jurisdiction.
Furthermore, to minimize citizens' inconvenience in medical use due to medical service gaps, the city plans to ensure thorough maintenance of the emergency medical system by specially hiring a total of 10 physicians at Busan Medical Center, the city's public medical institution.
