Since February, Boeun-gun has invited applications for the paid distribution of 50 saplings nationwide to local governments and public institutions, limiting up to five saplings per institution. Gijang-gun applied for five saplings and was selected as the final recipient for all requested saplings in March.
Unlike ordinary pine trees, Jeongipumsong is characterized by its straight trunk growth. The five saplings received from Boeun-gun, Chungbuk, were grown in 2014, stand about 2 meters tall, and have a base diameter of approximately 7 to 10 cm. The county is currently identifying planting sites mainly in key locations within its towns and townships and plans to hold the Jeongipumsong commemorative planting ceremony between April and May.
