Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is taking the lead in protecting the rights and interests of its residents and providing remedies for their grievances.
Last year, the district operated a ‘Free Legal Consultation Office’ and ‘Village Lawyers’ to help residents resolve legal issues encountered in daily life, conducting a total of 1,215 consultations.
The ‘Free Legal Consultation Office,’ where experts provide direct consultations on various legal issues, began in April 2008 and has continued annually with great support from residents.
This year, the district is operating the consultation office with 13 lawyers recommended by the Seoul Bar Association to provide high-quality, tailored consultation services to residents. The office hours are every Monday and the last Thursday of each month from 2 to 5 p.m., held at the expert consultation room on the first floor of Jungnang-gu Office.
Village Lawyers is a system where residents can receive free legal services by visiting a nearby community center on designated regular consultation days. Telephone consultations are also available for those who find it difficult to visit in person. Since its expansion to all community centers in July 2017, 738 consultations were conducted last year alone.
To meet the high demand for legal consultations and reduce waiting times, the district has increased the number of days Village Lawyers operate in each neighborhood from once a month to up to three times.
Additionally, the ‘Legal Home Doctor’ program is also in operation. This system places lawyers hired by the Ministry of Justice in local governments to provide free legal services prioritizing vulnerable groups, including legal consultations and referrals to support agencies. Since May 2018, one Legal Home Doctor lawyer has been working in the Welfare Policy Division of Jungnang-gu Office, contributing to alleviating the legal service needs of vulnerable residents.
