The Infant Forest Experience Center is a facility designed to awaken the five senses through various activities by interacting with nature in the forest, aiming to enhance immunity and provide emotional stability for infants.

The Infant Forest Experience Centers are operated at three locations: Doomsan Forest Culture Training Center in Heunghae-eup, Buk-gu; Songdo Pine Forest in Songdo-dong, Nam-gu; and Unjesan Forest Bathing Area in Daesong-myeon. The demand for forest visits from kindergartens and daycare centers is continuously increasing.

The forest interpretation program offers infants and adolescents opportunities to develop social skills, creativity, and learning abilities, while adults can directly experience the preciousness of forests and their healing functions. Pohang City operates two such locations.

Jungmyeong Natural Ecology Park, located in Nam-gu, is easily accessible due to its proximity to the city center and offers seasonal natural play and traditional game experiences.

Sabang Memorial Park in Buk-gu provides not only forest interpretation but also insights into the history and necessity of Korea’s sabang (slope protection) efforts. Especially, the summit observatory at Mugeunbong offers views of the East Coast shoreline and is popular as a sunrise viewing spot.

Additionally, Naeyeonsan Healing Forest in Songra-myeon, Buk-gu, is operated to help restore the health of tired minds and bodies through various forest healing activities. It also offers diverse programs for socially vulnerable groups as well as the general public.

Naeyeonsan Healing Forest was selected as a ‘2023 Gyeongsangbuk-do Wellness Tourism Site’ and is continuously consulting with related organizations such as the Gyeongbuk Tourism Corporation and Korail Tourism Development to operate various programs.

Unjesan Woodworking Experience Room, located at Unjesan Forest Bathing Area in Daesong-myeon, Nam-gu, runs the ‘Ttukttak! Ttukttak! Woodworking Experience Class’ once a week to provide citizens with woodworking opportunities. It is available to general families as well as vulnerable groups and people with disabilities through prior reservation.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, “As the demand for healing and relaxation through forests increases, Pohang City’s forest experience programs, which allow people to enjoy rest and activities simultaneously, are gaining attention. We will focus administrative efforts on developing and operating programs so that anyone can experience the forest anytime.”
