Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will promote the "Mokdong Apartment Surrounding Sewerage Maintenance Plan Establishment Project" to proactively prepare for future environmental changes due to the full-scale reconstruction project of the Mokdong housing development district, which is the size of a mini new town.
The district plans to establish a master plan for the sewer system, an essential urban infrastructure, from the early stages of the Mokdong Apartment reconstruction to build a "high-quality sewer system usable for over 100 years." The project will involve a city budget of 350 million KRW and is scheduled to be completed by May next year.
In particular, since the sewage pipes around Mokdong Apartments were designed based on the number of households (26,000 households) at the time of development in 1983, this project will focus on reviewing the "appropriateness of the sewage pipe facility scale" reflecting the more than doubled number of households (53,000 households) due to reconstruction.
Additionally, reflecting changes in rainfall patterns caused by abnormal weather and regional characteristics, and following Seoul City's upgrade of disaster prevention performance standards (from 95mm/hr to 100mm/hr), the project will comprehensively review the "capacity of stormwater drainage facilities" applying these standards.
Furthermore, the project will build basic data related to existing drainage and treatment areas, analyze the sewer network to diagnose structural problems, and prepare solutions such as pipeline improvement plans.
Once the sewer maintenance plan project for the entire Mokdong Apartment complex is completed in the first half of next year, the district plans to closely consult with reconstruction project stakeholders from the early stages to ensure it is reflected in the "reconstruction plans for each complex." If maintenance such as expansion and improvement of sewage pipes is needed due to the increase in households, conditions will be imposed on each complex's project implementer to encourage maintenance. The district will carry out improvement works for capacity shortages and aging sewer pipes in line with the reconstruction schedule.
