The Daejeon Social Welfare Center is planned to open in 2028, with a city budget of 48 billion KRW invested to build a facility on a 1,500㎡ site in Daehung-dong, Jung-gu. The building will have a total floor area of 8,225㎡, consisting of 6 floors above ground and 3 basement levels. It will house office spaces for social welfare organizations and groups, as well as training rooms and conference rooms to enhance the capabilities of social welfare workers.
Daejeon City reflected the supplementary budget in the city council’s special session at the end of April this year, is proceeding with the land purchase contract, and plans to introduce a design concept to create a premium architectural landmark that serves as a hub facility for social welfare.
The current Daejeon Social Welfare Center, which the city is renting, has been criticized for a lack of organic collaborative spaces, inconvenience for disabled groups, and excessive expenses on rent and management fees due to long-term leasing.
