Securing Over 50 Billion KRW Budget Including Selection for Ministry of Education Public Projects
Establishing Foundation for Implementing Various Policies to Enhance Student Skills
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is accelerating efforts to prepare for the future society in which our children will live.
On the 21st, the Gwangju Office of Education announced that it has secured a budget of over 50 billion won after achieving significant results, including being selected for a Ministry of Education public contest project.
Through this, they have taken a step closer to realizing Gwangju education under the slogan "Diverse Abilities are the Future; Returning to the Essence of Education."
First, on the 28th of last month, it was selected as a "Pilot Area for Education Development Special Zone." By securing a project budget of 30 billion won over three years, it has created an opportunity to nurture local talent and establish a settlement foundation through cooperation with local governments, regional universities, and industries.
Second, by being selected as a "Digital-Based Education Innovation Pilot Office of Education," it will receive a special grant of 3.8 billion won. This budget will be used for operating 24 digital education leading schools, teacher training, infrastructure expansion, and other projects, contributing to the creation and dissemination of successful models for AI-based classroom innovation and changes in teachers' roles.
Third, it became a pilot education site for the "Korean Language Education-Based International Exchange Activation Project." Going forward, it will carry out projects linked with overseas Korean Education Centers through a special grant of 1.2 billion won. Various projects such as the globalization of the Korean language and support for international exchange of multicultural students will be conducted.
Lastly, Sangil Girls' High School, Gwangju High School, Gwangju Jeil High School, Suwan High School, and Jeonnam High School were selected for "Autonomous Public High School 2.0." Each school will receive 200 million won annually for five years. Through this, creative education models can be created through financial and personnel autonomy.
In addition, from 2022, for two consecutive years, by achieving the "Special Account for Education Expenditure Execution Rate Target," a total of 16 billion won in general grants will be additionally received. Also, the trademark registration for the student-level study room "365-Study Room," a representative brand of Gwangju education policy, has been completed with the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
Along with this, they have applied to the Ministry of Education for regional education demand projects worth about 12 billion won, including the development of regional characteristic education programs such as the "Gwangsan Internationalization Special Zone Project."
