A man in his 20s who deceived people by claiming to be the "son of a chief prosecutor" and extorted money was sentenced to prison.
On the 21st, Judge Na Sang-ah of the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 10 announced that A (27), who was tried on charges of violating the Attorney-at-Law Act, fraud, and embezzlement, was sentenced to 10 months in prison and fined 3 million won. Earlier, A was accused of receiving 8 million won under the pretext of a service fee and repayment payment on behalf of others, claiming to assist with personal rehabilitation procedures despite not having a lawyer’s qualification in 2022. During this process, he also seized a laptop under the pretext of repayment for rehabilitation and sold it at a low price.
Additionally, in 2020, A deceived his girlfriend B by lying and made her take out a loan under the pretext of business funds, embezzling 13.37 million won. A introduced himself as a law student on leave from a prestigious university and lied to B that his father was serving as a chief prosecutor at the Seoul Regional Prosecutors’ Office. He also embezzled the sales proceeds by selling a foreign car he received from another girlfriend, C, under the pretext of consignment sales.

A is known to have squandered the money earned from his fraudulent activities on entertainment expenses and others. Judge Na stated, "Although A is not a lawyer and is in financial difficulty, he took money from those who were trying to proceed with personal rehabilitation under the pretext of legal services or rehabilitation repayment and used it for personal purposes," adding, "He deceived two women he was dating to gain financial benefits, which shows the severity of his crime." She further explained, "Considering that most of the damages have not been recovered and that he has a prior record of fraud and other offenses, the sentence was determined."
