Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok: "We Will Devote All Efforts to Establishing an Integrated National Medical School"
Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, announced on the 19th that he will devote all his efforts to the establishment of an integrated national medical school.
Governor Kim said at the policy meeting with department heads held that morning, “At the public discussion on people’s livelihood held on the 14th, the President opened the way for the first time to establish a national medical school,” adding, “We have applied to the government for the establishment of an integrated national medical school.”
He continued, “The establishment of a national medical school in Jeonnam is the 30-year aspiration of the people of Jeonnam,” and emphasized, “The government’s plan itself is an increase plan for the 2025 academic year, but it would be best if the plan includes the establishment of a national medical school in Jeonnam, and if not, separate discussions must continue.”
In particular, he explained, “There is much public support for the establishment of an integrated national medical school, and central government ministries also understand that direction,” and “Since there is a successful case of establishing an integrated medical school in Canada that has grown to a world-class level, we will actively discuss with the government.”
He also mentioned, “Although individual regions may express opinions on independent hosting, I hope they will respect the boundaries,” and “Healthy opinions can be expressed, but such expressions should not be perceived as a conflict structure.”
Regarding the revitalization of Muan International Airport, he said, “In addition to the groundbreaking support measures by Jeonnam Province and Muan County, the completion of the KTX airport station next year is approaching, and regular routes are gradually expanding,” and urged, “Let’s cooperate with Muan County to achieve greater results.”
On the recognition of crop damage due to decreased sunlight as a disaster, he said, “It is meaningful because what we have continuously requested has been accepted,” and “I hope measures will be taken so that the farmers who suffered damage are properly compensated.”
