Prosecutors Summon Former Anti-Corruption Commission Employee for Bribery Allegations Involving Jeon Jun-kyung
The prosecution investigating allegations of bribery against Jeon Jun-kyung, former deputy director of the Democratic Research Institute, summoned a former employee of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) on the 15th for questioning.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 3 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Yong-sik) called Park Mo, who worked as a secretary at the ACRC, as a witness for questioning on the morning of the same day.
Park worked in the Industrial, Agricultural, Forestry, and Environmental Complaints Division of the ACRC from 2015 to 2018, during which Jeon served as a non-standing member of the ACRC.
The prosecution is reportedly investigating Park to verify the handling process of complaints received by the ACRC at that time and whether Jeon was involved.
Jeon is suspected of receiving bribes in exchange for assisting with the handling of a complaint related to the development of Singil Oncheon in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, during his tenure as a non-standing member of the ACRC.
The prosecution suspects that in June 2016, Jeon voted in favor of the complainant at the ACRC plenary committee and received tens of millions of won from the complainant the following year. The complaint was reportedly approved by the ACRC and forwarded to Ansan City.
The prosecution is also investigating allegations that between 2017 and 2019, Jeon received bribes amounting to over 100 million won in multiple installments from Jeong Ba-ul, chairman of Asia Developer and a developer in Baekhyeon-dong, in exchange for facilitating requests related to real estate development permits in the Sanggal district of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
Additionally, the prosecution is investigating allegations that Jeon received several hundred million won in bribes or facilitation fees from other businessmen for public official favors.
