Im Sang-seop, Deputy Director of Korea Forest Service, Conducts On-site Inspection of Suncheon Urban Forest
The Korea Forest Service announced on the 15th that Deputy Director Im Sang-seop visited Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, to inspect the maintenance and management status of urban forests.

View original imageIn Suncheon, urban forests have been established at the Dongcheon Retention Basin in Ocheon-dong and along the city roads in Jorye-dong to mitigate the urban heat island effect and reduce fine dust.
From 2019 to 2023, the Korea Forest Service created urban forests at 473 locations nationwide, including Suncheon. The total area of these urban forests amounts to 706 hectares, equivalent to 989 soccer fields.
Generally, urban forests have been confirmed to lower the average daytime temperature in summer by 3 to 7 degrees Celsius and reduce fine dust by 26 to 27%.
