Subway Line 3 Ilsan Branch Power Outage Causes Commute 'Inconvenience'... Service Resumes at 10:10 AM
Power Outage Between Wondang and Wonheung Around 4:30 AM
Goyang City Responds with Extended Bus Services and Temporary Buses
Power outage occurred on Seoul Subway Line 3 Ilsan Line, causing delays in train operations in both directions and inconveniencing commuters.
According to Seoul Metro and Korail, at around 4:30 a.m. on the 15th, the power supply was cut off between Wondang and Wonheung stations in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province on Line 3, disrupting train operations. Korail, which is responsible for the section, resumed train operations at around 10:10 a.m. after restoring the power supply.
During the morning rush hour, Line 3 operated trains in both directions with limited service, causing inconvenience to commuters. Only one track was used for operations from Daehwa Station to Jichuk Station, and trains heading toward Daehwa turned back at Gupabal Station, making it impossible to use the up line from Gupabal Station.
Inside stations such as Daehwa, station staff informed passengers, "Train operations are delayed, so please use other means of transportation," and explained, "It is unknown when normal operations will resume." At affected stations, signs were placed near the ticket gates stating, "Train operations have been suspended, and normal train service is not available."
Commuters appeared confused by the sudden train delays. One commuter posted on social media, "I boarded a train to the terminus, but everyone was made to get off at a middle station." Another said, "With Line 3 broken down, even the buses are a nightmare."
Authorities focused on guiding commuters to alternative transportation to reduce congestion during the morning rush. Seoul Metro sent an emergency text message stating, "Due to the power outage on the Ilsan Line of Line 3, congestion in stations is expected, so please use other transportation." Korail also announced, "Delays are expected throughout Line 3. Customers in a hurry are advised to use other transportation."
