There Were No Gas Facility Disaster Incidents Last Year
Choi Yeon-hye, President of Korea Gas Corporation, Actively Promotes On-site Management and Safety System and Culture Development
Despite the frequent occurrence of unpredictable large and small natural disasters such as wildfires, typhoons, and heavy rains last year, there was not a single disaster damage incident at gas facilities. This is evaluated as the result of the entire company's efforts to create a safety culture, with CEO Choi Yeon-hye of Korea Gas Corporation leading the management team to directly visit sites, inspect risk factors, and promote the advancement of safety systems.
A Korea Gas Corporation official stated on the 15th, "The management team, including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), visits production bases and management offices nationwide to inspect the actual safety conditions on site and conducts major accident prevention training, thereby strengthening safety management leadership by setting an example."
Since taking office in December 2022, CEO Choi has identified 'safety' as the corporation's highest customer service and absolute core value, presenting 'advancing the safety management system and establishing safety management based on the principle of prioritizing life and safety' as an immediate task. The first organizational restructuring after her inauguration also focused on 'safety-first management,' reorganizing the Safety Management Headquarters into the Safety General Office directly under the Vice President of Safety Technology to strengthen the safety management control tower. In January of this year, she visited the Pyeongtaek Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production site, and before the Lunar New Year holiday, she personally checked the safety management status at the Tongyeong LNG production base and the Daegu area supply pipeline construction site.
On the 7th of last month, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, Choi Yeon-hye, President of Korea Gas Corporation (second from the left), visited the Tongyeong LNG production base and urged thorough safety management while inspecting the site.

In addition, regular on-site safety education and consulting are conducted for partner company executives and employees to spread a safety-first culture to partner companies as well.
To upgrade the safety management system to the next level, a 'Smart Safety Management System' utilizing advanced technology has also been established. At the large-scale construction site of the Dangjin production base, a smart safety integrated control center operates intelligent CCTV that monitors workers' safety status in real time, and systems such as a strong wind warning and crane collision prevention system detect risks caused by changes in work environments like weather conditions. In emergencies, real-time alarms are sent to the integrated control center, thereby strengthening on-site safety management.
Furthermore, by centralizing worksite monitoring around the integrated control center, accidents are proactively prevented, and when hazards are detected, warning broadcasts and emergency dispatches are carried out to secure the golden time for safety measures. Through this, Korea Gas Corporation confirmed the effectiveness of smart safety management by proactively detecting and taking preventive measures against 201 risk factors at sites last year. Going forward, to ensure even more thorough on-site safety management, the number of smart devices currently in operation, 40 units, will be increased to 314 units by next year. Especially this year, as the Serious Accident Punishment Act is expanded to workplaces with fewer than 50 employees, Korea Gas Corporation plans to expand the operation of smart safety equipment tailored to the characteristics of small-scale construction sites.
