Court to Deliver First Trial Verdict Today for Actor Oh Young-soo on Charges of Sexual Harassment
The first trial verdict for actor Oh Young-soo (80), who has been charged with sexual assault, will be announced on the 15th.
Judge Jeong Yeon-ju of Criminal Division 6 at the Seongnam Branch of Suwon District Court will hold the sentencing hearing for Oh's sexual assault case starting at 1:50 p.m. that day.
At the sentencing hearing on the 2nd of last month, the prosecutor requested the court to sentence Oh to one year in prison. The prosecutor stated, "The defendant expressed his longing for youth in a distorted way, sent apology messages to the victim while evading responsibility by saying 'because she is like a daughter,' causing the victim to feel frustrated."
Oh's defense attorney argued, "There is insufficient evidence consistent with this case other than the victim's testimony and the evidence derived from it," and added, "Considering the location, time, and circumstances of the assault, there is doubt whether the crime could have been committed."
In his final statement, Oh also appealed, "It is difficult and painful to stand in court like this. I feel devastated and as if my entire life is collapsing."
Previously, Oh was prosecuted in November 2022 on charges of two counts of sexual assault: hugging the victim, Ms. A, on a walking trail while staying in a certain province during the summer of 2017 for a theater performance, and kissing her on the cheek in front of her residence.
