TikTok CEO: "If the TikTok Ban Act is Enacted, 300,000 US Jobs Will Disappear"
In the United States, as the bill effectively banning the Chinese short-form platform TikTok passed the House of Representatives, TikTok CEO Zhu Shouzi stated that if this bill is enacted, 300,000 jobs in the U.S. will disappear.
According to AP News and others on the 13th (local time), CEO Zhu Shouzi emphasized in a video message sent to TikTok users that the TikTok ban bill "will take billions of dollars out of the pockets of creators and small businesses."
He claimed, "TikTok has invested in protecting users' data securely and preventing external manipulation," and "if the TikTok ban bill passes, it will give greater power to a few social networking service (SNS) companies."
CEO Zhu added, "We will not stop fighting and supporting you," and "we will continue to do everything we can, including exercising legal rights, to protect this amazing platform we built together with you."
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the TikTok ban bill with 352 votes in favor and 65 against, allowing TikTok to be removed from U.S. app stores due to security concerns. The bill essentially requires ByteDance, the Chinese company operating TikTok, to sell TikTok within 165 days.
