Geochang-gun, Idea Contest for Tourism Resource Development of Closed 88 Expressway Roads and Tunnels
Discovering Creative Ideas to Transform Abandoned Facilities into Tourist Attractions
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 12th that it will hold the "Old 88 Expressway Abandoned Road and Tunnel Tourism Resource Idea Contest" to discover ideas for utilizing abandoned roads and tunnels as new tourist attractions for the entire nation.
The abandoned road and tunnel of the old 88 Expressway, located at San 128 and San 80-1, Dori, Gajo-myeon, are two-lane roads with a width of 7.7m and a length of 1.8 km. The tunnel is 9.98m wide, 6.85m high, and 255m long.
The county plans to temporarily open the closed section from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the 20th and 23rd to allow interested individuals to check the site conditions.
The submission period for the contest is until April 30th. Proposals that present feasible and concrete utilization plans to develop the facilities into tourist attractions should be prepared according to the proposal form and submitted by mail or email.
The results of the evaluation will be announced in June. Prize money will be awarded to the winners: 1 grand prize of 1,000,000 KRW, 2 excellence prizes of 500,000 KRW each, and 3 encouragement prizes of 300,000 KRW each.
