Gokseong-gun Supports 20,000 Servings of '1,000 Won Breakfast' for University Students This Year

Operation Until November for Students of Jeonnam Science University

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will promote the ‘University Students’ 1,000-Won Breakfast Expansion Support Project’ for local university students who have a high rate of skipping breakfast due to high prices and lack of time.

The 1,000-Won Breakfast Support Project provides university students with breakfast made from Jeonnam rice for 1,000 won, and has been operated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs since 2017.

Jeollanam-do decided to implement this project at seven universities in the province this year, and Jeonnam Science University in Gokseong was selected as the target institution.

In particular, this year the government doubled the support unit price from 1,000 won to 2,000 won, and the school, Jeollanam-do, and Gokseong-gun additionally funded the project to provide breakfast worth a total of 5,500 won per meal. Considering students’ accessibility, the program will be operated at the GS25 convenience store located on campus during the semester from March to November, excluding vacation periods.

A county official said, “The 1,000-Won Breakfast Support Project has high satisfaction among university students by spreading the culture of eating breakfast and reducing living expenses, and it has a positive effect of promoting local rice consumption,” adding, “We plan to actively promote the ‘1,000-Won Breakfast’ to Jeonnam Science University students throughout March.”
