Goheung-gun Wins Top Award in Fishing Village and Harbor Regeneration Evaluation

Selected as an Excellent Local Government for Fisher Village and Fishing Port Regeneration Project Management

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 11th that it won the Grand Prize in the ‘2023 Excellent Local Government Management Evaluation for Fishing Village and Fishing Port Regeneration Projects’ hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

This evaluation was conducted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries targeting 73 local governments nationwide, comprehensively assessing the execution rate of project sites, completion status, progress of preliminary procedures, institutional efforts, and excellent management achievements of the 2023 fishing village and fishing port regeneration projects (such as the Fishing Village New Deal Project and the Fishing Village Vitalization Project). In this evaluation, six local governments including Gohung-gun were selected as excellent institutions.

Gohung-gun was recognized for the early completion of five sites including Seonjeon Port and Deokheung Port among the eight sites of the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, as well as the project progress rate of one site, Singi Port.

Accordingly, Gohung-gun received the Grand Prize among the six local governments along with a commendation from the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries and a prize money of 2 million won.

Gong Young-min, Governor of Gohung-gun, said, “This selection as an excellent local government nationwide reflects the results of Gohung-gun’s proactive project implementation and the continuous interest of fishermen. We will do our best to create a sustainable fishing village environment by actively planning and supporting follow-up projects such as the Fishing Village Vitalization Promotion Contest, which is a follow-up to the New Deal Project.”
