Sales of Automated External Defibrillators Soar Ahead of Outing Season
Mandatory Expansion of AED Installation at Tourist Sites and Management Offices
S1 Leads Market with 38% Increase in AED Sales
As the peak outing season approaches, sales of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are increasing. This is because, since February, the installation of AEDs has been mandatory in 'management offices and information facilities of tourist sites and tourist complexes.' The market is expected to grow further as other public facilities, such as railway stations, are also anticipated to become mandatory AED installation targets.
According to the industry on the 11th, the number of AEDs installed domestically increased by nearly 40% over three years, from about 50,000 units in 2020 to about 70,000 units last year. S-1, which has been leading the domestic AED distribution market since 2010, also saw a noticeable increase in sales. S-1's AED sales last year rose by approximately 38% compared to the previous year.
Recently, the application of new technology to AEDs has helped improve response in emergency situations, contributing to the sales increase. S-1’s AED has shortened the initial activation time, which had been a limitation. Typically, using an AED requires about 20 seconds for electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis followed by high-voltage charging. S-1’s AED technology performs ECG analysis and high-voltage charging simultaneously, reducing this time to under 10 seconds. This helps secure the golden time and increases survival rates.
Since AEDs are used only in emergencies, there is a high possibility they may be neglected after initial installation. Poor management can result in failure to operate when urgently needed. To prevent such issues, S-1 has implemented an online monitoring solution. Administrators can monitor the usability, expiration dates, and current location of the AED units and accessories in real time through a dedicated website and mobile application without visiting the site. Additionally, critical events such as AED power operation and equipment removal are immediately reported to administrators to support stable management.
Since 2010, S-1 has signed a business agreement with the Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and has been providing CPR training to the general public for over ten years. This is because having an AED is useless if people do not know how to use it in emergencies. To date, about 105,000 people have completed CPR training through S-1. Upon customer request, S-1 also offers on-site CPR training services by professional instructors along with AED usage guidance.
