Gyeonggi-do Appoints 20 Honorary Ambassadors for Foreign Residents... Expecting Expanded Communication
Gyeonggi Province appointed 20 foreign resident honorary ambassadors on the 8th to expand foreign residents' participation and communication in the local community.
On the 9th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had appointed 20 foreign residents from 16 countries speaking 17 languages living in 12 cities and counties within the province, including Goyang and Gimpo, as honorary ambassadors after evaluating their Korean language proficiency, social contribution level, social media (SNS) usage ability, and leadership.
The foreign resident honorary ambassadors will serve for two years from this month until June 2026, playing roles in various fields to build a disaster safety network for foreign communities and promote local community integration, including ▲ timely delivery of emergency disaster messages ▲ distribution of disaster safety prevention card news ▲ provision of information on changes in residence status ▲ delivery of initial life adaptation information ▲ cooperation on specialized materials and foreign resident-related tasks.
Gyeonggi Province expects that this appointment will enable foreign residents settled in the local community to receive practical and tangible assistance.
Previously, in March last year, Gyeonggi Province appointed 20 immigrant safety culture honorary ambassadors to pilot a program aimed at disaster safety prevention for foreign residents.
Providing safety information related to disaster prevention and response in their native languages made it easier for foreign residents, who have difficulty accessing disaster information, to receive it, earning positive evaluations.
