Daejinyeon Storms People Power Party Headquarters... "Resign Seong Il-jong for Ito Hirobumi Remarks"
Members of the Korean University Students Progressive Union (Daejin-yeon) stormed the People Power Party's central office on the 9th, demanding the resignation of Assemblyman Seong Il-jong, who sparked controversy with his remarks about Ito Hirobumi, and were arrested by the police.
The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul arrested seven Daejin-yeon members on the spot on charges including trespassing.
According to the police, at around 11:20 a.m. that day, they unlawfully entered the People Power Party office in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, shouting slogans such as "Seong Il-jong must resign and leave politics."
Even after being dragged outside the party office by the police, they continued their protest without complying with the dispersal orders and were all arrested. The intrusion was also broadcast live on YouTube.
Assemblyman Seong had caused controversy on the 3rd at the Seosan Scholarship Foundation scholarship award ceremony by saying about Ito Hirobumi, "He was a figure who brought about a terrible situation on the Korean Peninsula and thus an unfortunate history for us, but (Japan) set a precedent by nurturing talent before us."
