Gwangju Seo-gu 'International Women's Day' Equality Culture Empathy Event
The Gwangju Headquarters Seo-gu Branch of the Korean Government Employees' Union commemorated the 116th International Women's Day on March 8 by holding a rice cake sharing event for all employees, along with a fun acrostic poem contest and a gender equality culture rules creation event to reflect on the value of 'equality.'
International Women's Day was established to commemorate the cry of women workers 116 years ago on March 8, demanding "bread (right to survival) and roses (right to vote)."
Accordingly, the Gwangju Headquarters Seo-gu Branch of the Korean Government Employees' Union celebrated 'Women's Day' by sharing rice cakes instead of bread with all employees, including female government workers.
They also held a 'fun acrostic poem' and 'creating workplace gender equality culture rules' event themed on Women's Day, an equal world, and prohibition of discrimination, which drew interest and participation from employees.
In particular, in the 'fun acrostic poem' category, compelling poems such as 'Prohibition of Discrimination - (Cha) Are you unable to speak up? (Byeol) Are you worried about being called strange? (Geum) It will soon be forgotten. (Ji) Be brave now, your cry changes the world' and 'Equal World - (Pyeong) Some may be indifferent even when seeing unreasonable discrimination. (Deung) If you start by carefully observing your surroundings, (Se) Discrimination that gives preferential treatment (Sang) can be resolved' caught attention.
In the 'gender equality culture rules' category, both male and female employees commonly voiced their desire for an equal workplace culture, including ▲ mutual respect and using polite language ▲ not assigning gender roles ▲ refraining from appearance evaluation ▲ not feeling pressured during childcare time.
