Efforts Recognized for Improving Fisheries and Life Safety Facilities... Enhancing Quality of Life in Fishing Villages

Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) received the Excellence Award in the outstanding local government evaluation for the fishing village and fishing port regeneration project organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

According to the county on the 8th, this evaluation comprehensively assessed 73 metropolitan and basic local governments that promoted fishing village and fishing port regeneration projects (Fishing Village New Deal Project, Fishing Village Vitality Promotion Project, Fishing Village Vitality Promotion Pilot Project) in terms of project performance, execution results, and overall project aspects.

Since 2019 until 2024, Muan-gun has invested a total of 77.1 billion KRW in 11 locations for the fishing village and fishing port regeneration projects, implementing specialized projects to improve fishermen's welfare and common projects such as pier maintenance in outdated fishing village and fishing port facilities. This has significantly contributed to improving fishermen's quality of life and creating vibrant fishing villages by enhancing fishing facilities and living safety facilities that threaten fishermen's safety.

Governor Kim San stated, “We will continue to do our best to make fishing villages, which are struggling due to aging populations, into fishing villages where young people return by actively promoting the Fishing Village Vitality Project to improve fishermen's living conditions and increase income.”
