Japan-Originated Transit Attraction in Full Swing... Incheon Airport Joins Hands with Hiroshima Airport, Japan
Incheon International Airport Corporation is teaming up with Hiroshima International Airport in Japan to actively attract transit passengers.
On the 8th, Incheon International Airport Corporation announced that it had signed a 'Marketing Business Agreement (MOU) for the Activation of the Incheon-Hiroshima Route and Attraction of Transit Passengers' with Hiroshima International Airport Co., Ltd. in Hiroshima, Japan, the previous day.
Accordingly, both parties plan to promote the use of the Incheon-Hiroshima route and jointly attract transit demand from Hiroshima to Incheon Airport. In particular, since about 46% of visitors to Hiroshima are travelers from the Americas and Europe, indicating a high demand for long-distance travel, it is expected that a long-term transfer model between low-cost carriers (LCC) and full-service carriers (FSC) can be established by utilizing Incheon Airport's air network.
The number of international passengers on the Incheon Airport-Hiroshima route has already increased by 20% compared to the previous month, reaching 18,000 in one month (as of last month). This allows targeting transit demand generated when residents near Hiroshima Prefecture travel to third countries without direct flights.
In the future, Incheon International Airport Corporation plans to jointly conduct local online promotional events with Hiroshima Airport and Jeju Air, targeting Japan's Golden Week (April 29 to May 5) and the summer peak season. This will include discount events and promotions for the Jeju Air Incheon-Hiroshima route, which operates twice daily.
