Full Coverage of Educational Activity Support Fees, Tuition, and Textbooks, Graduation Album Fees, etc.
Intensive Application Period for Low-Income Students Until the 22nd
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) plans to provide approximately 38.1 billion KRW in educational benefits and tuition support to about 36,000 low-income elementary, middle, and high school students this year.
The criteria for educational benefits, which are part of the Basic Livelihood Security Program, are uniform nationwide. Students whose household income recognized amount is 50% or less of the median income (monthly recognized income of 2.86 million KRW or less for a family of four) are eligible for support.
Recipients of educational benefits can receive full support for educational activity support expenses, tuition, and textbook fees.
This year, the Busan Office of Education has increased the ‘educational activity support expenses’ by an average of 11.1% compared to last year, providing 461,000 KRW for elementary students, 654,000 KRW for middle school students, and 727,000 KRW for high school students respectively.
‘Tuition and textbook fees’ are only supported for students attending schools excluded from free education, such as private special-purpose high schools and autonomous private high schools.
Recipients of educational benefits can apply for vouchers through the Korea Student Aid Foundation website and receive educational activity support expenses as card points or similar benefits.
Tuition support is provided according to the support criteria of each metropolitan and provincial office of education. In Busan, students with household income between 60% and 90% of the median income may be eligible.
Those eligible for tuition support receive ▲ after-school free course vouchers up to 1 million KRW per year ▲ internet communication fees up to 230,000 KRW per year ▲ PC support for those meeting selection criteria within budget ▲ school trip and field trip expenses (actual costs) ▲ graduation album fees up to 70,000 KRW ▲ and tuition and textbook fees for students attending schools excluded from free education.
Parents or guardians wishing to apply can visit their local eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare center or apply online through the Bokjiro or Education Expense One-Click System during the ‘Concentrated Application Period for Educational Benefits and Tuition Support for Elementary, Middle, and High School Students’ running until the 22nd.
Applications can also be submitted at any time outside the concentrated period, but support starts from the month of application, so applying early in the semester, such as in March, is advantageous.
If a child enters elementary school, an application must be submitted even if siblings are already receiving support. However, if support is already being received, reapplication is not necessary, but the household’s income and assets will be reviewed using existing information to determine continued eligibility.
For more details, contact the eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare center, the Ministry of Education Central Counseling Center, the Ministry of Health and Welfare Call Center, or the Busan Office of Education.
