Korea Zinc Unveils Secondary Battery Material Business Value Chain at InterBattery
Korea Zinc announced on the 4th that it will participate in 'InterBattery 2024,' the largest domestic battery specialized exhibition held at COEX, Seoul, for three days from the 6th to the 8th.
Through this exhibition, Korea Zinc plans to actively promote the core technologies and quality competitiveness of its secondary battery materials business, one of the Troika Drive's future new growth engines. It will showcase how nickel produced at the world's first all-in-one nickel smelter is converted into cathode materials, a key component of secondary batteries, through precursors. Additionally, Korea Zinc will present its unique secondary battery materials business value chain, where recycled copper is used to produce copper foil, a major material for anodes.
Korea Zinc is the only exhibiting company to showcase content utilizing a 'Kinetic LED Wall' and a 'robot arm.' The booth was designed with great care to catch visitors' eyes and to help both experts and the general public easily understand the overall trends of the battery industry. The overall exhibition space uses the color 'black' to express a sophisticated and luxurious image, and the booth exterior features line LEDs in three colors symbolizing the Troika Drive, creating an effect like stars flowing.
The booth is mainly divided into the value chain diorama zone, nickel smelting zone, battery cathode material zone, and copper foil (anode material) zone. Upon entering the booth, visitors first see the main diorama arranged in parallel with the kinetic LED wall, where they can enjoy media art that reinterprets Korea Zinc's next-generation process technology through moving screens. The production process of cathode materials forming the secondary battery value chain and Korea Zinc's 'End to end' solution can also be directly confirmed through the screens and diorama.
The highlight of the nickel smelting zone is the diorama featuring Korea Zinc's all-in-one nickel smelter, which began construction last year, using a robot arm. As the robot arm moves in multiple directions illuminating various parts of the diorama, an interactive experience plays the process on monitors. This will reveal the process incorporating world-class smelting technology. In particular, the process of producing high-purity nickel sulfate using all raw materials such as nickel intermediates (MHP, Matt, Blackmass) will also be promoted.
In the battery cathode material zone, the nickel smelting and recycling businesses are connected, showcasing the stages from precursor manufacturing to cathode active material production. Korea Zinc will introduce the expansion of production volume and secured competitiveness of cathode precursor materials through its unique recycling fusion process. It will also emphasize the establishment of a stable lithium raw material supply chain by producing high-purity lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide products, ensuring cost efficiency and supply stability.
In the copper foil (anode material) zone, Korea Zinc highlights itself as 'the company that supplies the world's best eco-friendly copper foil most stably,' revealing differentiated production technologies such as electrolysis technology, foil production technology, and impurity suppression technology unique to Korea Zinc. It will also demonstrate global competitiveness through securing a total production capacity of 120,000 tons domestically and internationally by 2029, along with mid- to long-term overseas expansion plans. The exhibition hall will feature a touch transparent screen to explain copper foil more interactively, allowing visitors to effectively understand the product structure and process through the display.
