"If You Go In This Time, You Can't Get Out"... Gangster Who Assaulted YouTuber and Teacher Found Dead
Last Year, Gangster Sniper YouTuber Assaulted
Organized Crime Member Who Ordered Assault Found Dead in Motel
A man in his 30s, a member of an organized crime group who was under investigation for instructing an assault on a YouTuber targeting gangsters, was later found to have taken his own life.
According to the legal community on the 3rd, Mr. A, a member of the Suwon Nammunpa gang who was being investigated earlier this year on charges of instructing special injury, failed to appear at a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) and was found dead at a motel in Gyeonggi Province. Mr. A had already missed one previous warrant review hearing.
A prosecution official stated, “We have arrested three lower-ranking gang members who carried out the crime and two higher-ranking members. Mr. A was also under investigation on the same level but died in late January,” adding, “We are continuing the related investigation.”
Mr. A was under investigation for instructing the assault on Mr. B, a YouTuber in his 40s, by gang members in Danwon-gu, Ansan City, in September last year. At the time, the gang members assaulted Mr. B with fists and feet while he was dining with acquaintances at a restaurant and then fled.
Four days later, police arrested and sent to prosecution three men in their 20s in Geochang, Gyeongnam Province, on charges of special injury for assaulting Mr. B. It was confirmed that they assaulted Mr. B because he had posted videos on YouTube exposing and criticizing the gang they belonged to.
The police confirmed that these men had joined and operated within a violent organization in the Seoul metropolitan area and investigated whether the organization was involved in this incident. They also identified the ‘higher-ups,’ including Mr. A, who instructed the lower-ranking members to carry out the assault.
Additionally, charges under Article 4 of the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts, etc., concerning the ‘formation and activities of groups,’ were applied to Mr. A and others. If this charge is applied, it allows for distinguishing and punishing those who form, join, or act as members of groups or organizations with criminal purposes.
Meanwhile, it was reported that before his death, Mr. A told his family that “If I get arrested this time, I don’t think I will come out.”
