A man in his 30s who amassed a large sum of money by stealing valuables from customers while visiting saunas in the Seoul metropolitan area was arrested by the police. On the 28th, the Suwon Western Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they had detained Mr. A, in his 30s, on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (habitual theft) and sent him to the prosecution.

View original imageMr. A is accused of visiting 19 saunas in Suwon, Seongnam, Ansan, and other areas from the 9th to the 19th, stealing wallets, mobile phones, and other items from other people's lockers and fleeing. The total value of the stolen valuables is reported to be approximately 36 million KRW. He is also charged with fraudulently using credit and debit cards found in the stolen wallets 43 times to purchase luxury bags and the latest electronic devices, amounting to about 80 million KRW.
Mr. A targeted the fact that some sauna users would buy disposable shampoo and body wash and leave them in a basin along with their locker keys while bathing. He stole valuables by using the locker keys found in basins throughout the saunas to open the corresponding lockers.
On the morning of the 18th, the police received reports that four saunas in the jurisdiction had been robbed consecutively and launched an investigation. The next day, on the 19th, Mr. A was urgently arrested at a sauna in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon City.
