Last year, in the second half, the area with the highest increase in the number of employed people in the Seoul metropolitan area was Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do.
According to the recent 'Employment Numbers by City, County, and District' released by Statistics Korea, the number of employed people in Pyeongtaek-si in the second half of last year was approximately 344,200, an increase of 13,700 from 330,500 in the first half of the same year. This is the largest increase among the 66 basic local governments in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul. Nationwide, it ranks second after Changwon-si, Gyeongnam (15,700).
During this period, only three cities, counties, and districts in the metropolitan area saw employment increases exceeding 10,000. Following Pyeongtaek-si, Seo-gu in Incheon ranked second with 13,500, and Hwaseong-si ranked third with 10,500.
The increase in employment in Pyeongtaek-si is attributed to the concentration of large-scale construction projects such as the Samsung Electronics Pyeongtaek Campus, Godeok International New City, Brain City, and Hwayang District.
In fact, during this period, the proportion of employed people in the construction industry in Pyeongtaek-si was 13.7%, the highest nationwide. According to the National Tax Service's 'Business Status by Years of Continuity' data, 815 newly registered construction-related businesses were established in the last six months, the highest in the country.
The population is also steadily increasing due to the rise in employment. As of the end of January, the population of Pyeongtaek-si was 634,121 and continues to grow steadily each month.
