Ministry of Economy and Finance Holds Meeting with Energy Startups: "Prioritizing Activation of Carbon-Free Power Sources"
Kim Dong-il, Director of the Budget Office at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, stated, "Next year's fiscal investment in the energy sector will prioritize the activation of carbon-free power sources such as nuclear power plants."
On the afternoon of the 26th, Director Kim visited 'Gridwiz,' a startup in the new energy industry, to directly observe the operation cases of new energy technologies and held a meeting with energy policy experts and private companies, where he made these remarks.
The companies and experts attending the meeting pointed out that to advance the carbon-free energy (CFE) ecosystem in the future, it is necessary not only to expand the supply capacity of various carbon-free energy sources but also to simultaneously build future-type power systems such as distributed energy as a foundation for this.
In particular, they agreed on the need to expand policy support related to incentives such as policy funds to promote investment by energy companies, research and development (R&D) for new technologies like small modular reactors (SMR) and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), and the construction of distributed power system infrastructure such as integrated power plants.
In response, Director Kim emphasized active support for carbon-free power sources, saying, "The major transition to carbon-free energy is an issue on which global consensus has been formed." He also stated that the various voices from the field raised during the discussion would be actively reviewed and reflected in the process of drafting next year's budget.
