The meeting was attended not only by Head Ryu but also by Y-KAST Deputy Head Kim Young-geun and about ten next-generation members.
Y-KAST was established in 2017 to support the growth of young researchers by selecting outstanding researchers under the age of 45 and supporting domestic and international academic exchanges and policy activities.
The Ministry of Science and ICT shared plans for 'data-driven talent policy advancement,' including R&D investment and system innovation measures, preparation of a national strategic technology global manpower map based on paper and patent analysis, and manpower supply analysis through linkage of researcher information systems with employment insurance databases (DB).
Additionally, Y-KAST presented 'Measures to nurture young science and technology personnel in the era of population cliff' and 'Research plans on transitioning university research support methods suitable for research-oriented universities.'
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to support research activities on securing and utilizing young science and technology personnel by Y-KAST over the next year and to exchange opinions and share research results through regular joint forums between the Ministry and the Young Korean Academy of Science and Technology. The young science and technology personnel network created through this research will also be used for advising on future science and technology innovation policies.
