Cambodian Man Arrested and Sent to Prosecution for Causing Traffic Accident While Using Philopon
Cambodian nationals who caused a traffic accident while driving under the influence of methamphetamine and fled the scene have been handed over to the prosecution.
On the 26th, the Seoul Gwanak Police Station announced that they had arrested and sent to prosecution a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, a Cambodian national, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and the Road Traffic Act. Along with him, two other Cambodian nationals in their 30s, Mr. B and Mr. C, who were passengers in the vehicle, were handed over to the Seoul Immigration Office and sent to prosecution without detention on charges including violation of the Narcotics Control Act.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of driving under the influence of methamphetamine on a road in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, at around 11:48 p.m. on the 31st of last month, hitting a motorcycle, abandoning the vehicle, and fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the motorcycle rider reportedly sustained only minor injuries.
The police received a 112 emergency call reporting "a hit-and-run vehicle is being chased," and within about 30 minutes, they apprehended driver Mr. A near the accident site and found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
