Busan City to Operate 'Ttubak Ttubak Busan Architecture Tour' Starting March
Every Saturday and Sunday, 'Busan Geonchuk Munhwa Haeseolsa' Accompanied Walking Architecture Tour
Four Courses Available: Centum City, UN Culture, Original Downtown, Dongnae Traditional Architecture
Busan City, together with the Busan International Architecture Festival Organizing Committee (Executive Chairman Lee Seong-ho), will regularly operate the 'Ttubok Ttubok Busan Architecture Tour' twice a week every Saturday and Sunday starting from March.
The 'Architecture Tour' is a citizen participation program where participants walk with a cultural guide to tour architectural structures, operated annually to properly promote the excellence of Busan's architectural culture.
The architecture tour is operated through a total of four courses. These include ▲Centum City Architecture (Haeundae-gu) ▲UN and Cultural Architecture (Nam-gu) ▲Old Downtown Architecture (Jung-gu) ▲Dongnae Traditional Architecture (Dongnae-gu), which are representative urban and architectural cultural assets of Busan. Each course takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes on foot.
The 'Centum City Architecture' course tours around major modern architectural landmarks in the Centum City area of Haeundae-gu, including the Busan Museum of Art Lee Ufan Space, BEXCO, Shinsegae Department Store, and the Busan Cinema Center.
The 'UN and Cultural Architecture' course explores modern and contemporary architectural sites centered around the Busan Cultural Center, National Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation, UN Memorial Cemetery, and UN Memorial Park in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, highlighting Busan’s unique patriotic and veterans’ cultural heritage and memorial facilities.
Notably, starting this year, the Busan Museum has been added to the existing courses, allowing for a more diverse architectural exploration experience.
The 'Old Downtown Architecture' course visits modern architectural sites that reflect Busan’s identity and history, including Baeksan Memorial Hall, Busan Meteorological Observatory, the Anglican Cathedral of Busan, and the annex of the Busan Modern History Museum in Jung-gu.
Lastly, the 'Dongnae Traditional Architecture' course tours traditional architecture remaining in Dongnae-gu, Busan, such as Jang Gwancheong, Dongheon, and Dongnae Hyanggyo. Past participants especially fondly remember climbing Dongnae Eupseong and enjoying the refreshing panoramic views, strongly recommending others to complete the full course.
Regular tours (3 to 10 people per session) start at 2 PM on Saturdays and 10 AM on Sundays for each course. Applications can be made on the Busan International Architecture Festival website, and the participation fee is 5,000 KRW per person.
Group tours of 11 or more people are available not only on weekends but also on weekdays by appointment via phone.
All participants on-site will receive souvenirs reflecting the unique characteristics of each course.
Kim Jong-seok, Director of the Housing and Architecture Bureau of Busan City, stated, “Excellent architectural cultural assets create the attractive city of Busan,” adding, “We hope many citizens will have a valuable experience through the architecture tour this year, fostering interest and affection for the Busan they live in.”
