[MWC On-site] KT Rolls Up Sleeves for Urban Air Mobility... Unveils Intelligent Management System for the First Time
Optimal Sky Route by Line Presented
Enhancing Safety with Digital Twin Technology
Reducing Risks and Connecting 5G-Satellite Communication
KT unveiled a system for safe urban air mobility (UAM) operations at the world's largest mobile exhibition, 'MWC 2024.' They showcased various new technologies aimed at the commercialization of UAM, a future transportation mode.
On the 26th, KT introduced an intelligent UAM traffic management system at MWC 2024 held in Barcelona, Spain. Utilizing digital twin technology, they transferred real UAM operation situations into a digital environment. Based on extensive data analysis and simulation experience, safety can be enhanced.
In particular, KT UAM provides the optimal sky route for each flight path. They have developed an algorithm that comprehensively considers various data such as high-rise buildings in urban areas, no-fly zones, and fluctuating populations to find the best route. Collaborating with the Korea Air Force Academy, they shared flight data and verified safety through virtual flights by experienced pilots. When a risk situation is predicted, flight schedules are adjusted to reduce the likelihood of accidents.
KT also showcased Skypath, a stable communication service for UAM users. Skypath, which provides 5G aviation services, consists of solutions optimized for UAM flight routes, specialized antennas, and remote control technology for base stations.
They also introduced dual-link technology that simultaneously connects 5G and satellite communications. This creates an environment where UAM aircraft can maintain stable connections using satellite communication even if they deviate from normal flight paths or encounter environments where 5G communication is difficult.
