Gyeonggi-do Conducts Joint Inspections at 48 Construction Sites in Preparation for Thaw Season
Gyeonggi Province will conduct safety inspections involving on-site experts at 48 small- and medium-sized private construction sites across the province from the 26th of this month to the 15th of next month, ahead of the thawing season.
Earlier, in response to the expanded enforcement of the 'Serious Accident Punishment Act' last month, Gyeonggi Province has been strengthening safety management at small- and medium-sized construction sites with 5 to 50 workers.
This inspection is part of the 'Worker-Centered Construction Site Safety Innovation Plan' and will be carried out as a joint inspection involving qualified on-site (external) experts and the provincial and municipal licensing departments.
The joint inspection team, consisting of about 100 members, will focus on 48 construction sites in 13 cities and counties, checking for ▲ vulnerabilities in safety management against thawing-related hazards such as collapse, toppling, and falling rocks ▲ the three major risk areas (falls, entrapment, and failure to wear personal protective equipment) ▲ utilization of site-specific risk assessment systems related to the expanded enforcement of the 'Serious Accident Punishment Act,' and compliance with the construction accident prevention guidance contract system.
Gyeonggi Province is particularly establishing a cooperative system among central government (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Ministry of Employment and Labor), the province, related agencies (Korea Infrastructure Safety & Technology Corporation and Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency), and municipalities to discuss cooperation measures and conduct joint inspections to reduce industrial accidents at construction sites.
Additionally, the province operates the 'Gyeonggi Province Construction Safety Council,' a construction safety policy network, conducts construction safety status evaluations in cities and counties, and carries out on-site inspections involving external experts organized by the province. Furthermore, it promotes the operation of labor safety guardians, on-site industrial accident prevention education, municipal education, expert meetings, and the production and distribution of construction safety guidelines.
