"Two Companies Listed This Year Alone" Daejeon Listed Companies Increase to 57
The number of listed companies in the Daejeon area has increased to 57. This is the result of supporting companies' listings through the operation of the Initial Public Offering (IPO) program.
On the 25th, Daejeon City announced that Kosem Co., Ltd., a company specializing in the development of electron microscopes, was listed on the KOSDAQ market. Including Kosem, the number of listed companies in the Daejeon area is 57, ranking third among the six major metropolitan cities, following Incheon (95) and Busan (81).
In particular, the market capitalization of local listed companies amounts to 37.8805 trillion KRW, the largest among the five major metropolitan cities excluding Incheon.
Recently, Daejeon has seen a rapid increase in the number of listed companies, focusing on strategic industries such as bio and semiconductor sectors. Prior to Kosem, Hanbit Laser Co., Ltd. was listed on KOSDAQ on the 4th of last month. In just January and February of this year, two local companies succeeded in entering KOSDAQ.
Since 2019, Daejeon City has been operating an ‘IPO program’ in collaboration with Daejeon Technopark and KAIST to support company listings.
The IPO program provides specialized education and consulting on IPOs, M&A, and investment attraction to companies in the region wishing to go public. Both Hanbit Laser and Kosem, which were listed on KOSDAQ this year, completed the IPO program.
Among the listed companies in the Daejeon area, 8 companies (14% of the total) have been listed since the 8th local government administration began. Additionally, indicators such as market capitalization per listed company and market capitalization per capita rank highest among the five major metropolitan cities, indicating very bright future growth potential for listed companies, according to Daejeon City.
Above all, the future strategic industry development and business-friendly policies, which are being intensively promoted during the 8th local government administration, are creating synergy, and it is expected that the number of local listings will become more active in the future.
Following the opening of the Korea Exchange Daejeon Innovation Growth Center in December last year, Daejeon City plans to strengthen its cooperative relationship with the Korea Exchange and establish and operate a ‘one-stop listing support platform’ to support the rapid listing of promising local companies.
