Gwangju Seo-gu to Recruit Participants for 'Physical Fitness Improvement Class' Until the 6th of Next Month

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 23rd that it will recruit 30 participants on a first-come, first-served basis until the 6th of next month for the ‘5060 Powerful! Beautiful! Wonderful! Physical Fitness Improvement Class’ to overcome menopause.

Menopausal symptoms vary individually, including depression, sleep disorders, and increased body fat, and can be alleviated through regular exercise.

Seo-gu plans to provide combined aerobic and anaerobic exercises using small equipment such as kettlebells, jump ropes, and step boxes, along with monthly positive psychology education and programs like horticultural therapy to relieve depression and anxiety.

The exercise program will be held twice a week, every Monday and Thursday from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, at the Seo-gu Physical Fitness Certification Center, targeting residents experiencing menopausal symptoms, from the 18th of next month until June 10th.

Before the program starts, basic assessments of participants’ physical fitness, health, and mental health will be conducted, and residents identified as high-risk based on the test results will be monitored with connections to mental health doctors and referrals for treatment.

Applications are open by phone to any residents experiencing menopausal symptoms who agree to participate in pre- and post-fitness assessments, and all participants will be provided with exercise small equipment such as kettlebells and jump ropes.

Son Sukja, Director of Health Promotion, said, “As the population experiencing menopause increases, it is becoming important for both women and men to wisely overcome menopause,” adding, “We hope many people participate in the exercise program to alleviate menopausal symptoms and improve their quality of life.”
