Wando-gun's Special Policy 'Marine Healing Industry' Announcement Draws Attention
Proposed Agenda to Be Actively Submitted to Jeollanam-do and Central Government Departments

The agenda items discussed at the meeting included 13 items such as △increasing the provincial subsidy rate for social welfare sector support projects △amendment of related regulations to respond to odor complaints △recommendation to revise the enforcement decree to activate the Hometown Love Donation System. The council decided to propose the suggested agenda items to Jeollanam-do and central government ministries.
Wando-gun attracted attention by presenting the ‘Marine Healing Industry’ as a special policy case.
Since 2015, Wando-gun has been promoting the marine healing industry as a future growth engine industry, and the Wando Marine Healing Center, where the regular meeting was held, was the first of its kind built in Korea and opened in November last year, leading the country’s marine healing industry.
In particular, the Marine Healing Center has firmly established itself as a cradle of the marine healing industry, with over 15,000 visitors in just over three months since its opening.
If the marine healing industry is successfully promoted, it is expected to become a driving force to overcome the crisis of regional extinction caused by population decline through the creation of quality jobs and income.
In his welcome speech, Shin Woo-cheol, governor of Wando-gun, said, “Although there are various problems threatening the existence of local governments such as low birth rates and aging population, there is opportunity in crisis, and since each region in Jeonnam has sufficient development potential, let us strengthen the cooperation system and build a livable Jeonnam.”
