Samsung C&T Officially Certified for 'Carbon Reduction Concrete Methodology'
Regulations on Carbon Reduction Principles, Calculation Methods, and Monitoring Verification Procedures
First Certification for the Construction Industry from the Carbon Reduction Certification Center
Samsung C&T Corporation's Construction Division announced on the 23rd that it has developed a methodology to measure the carbon reduction effect during the manufacturing and on-site application of low-carbon concrete and has received official certification from the Carbon Reduction Certification Center.

Samsung C&T is the first in the domestic construction industry to receive certification from the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Carbon Reduction Certification Center, which operates a voluntary carbon market.
Concrete, whose main ingredient is cement, is a key construction material but is recognized as a major source of greenhouse gases due to the large amount of carbon dioxide emitted during its manufacturing process. The construction industry is actively developing various low-carbon concretes that significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Samsung C&T has developed low-carbon PC (Precast Concrete) that reduces carbon emissions by about 40% compared to ordinary concrete and is introducing it at the Banpo Jugong Complex 1, Section 3 site. Recently, the company has also been working on various new construction technologies for carbon reduction, such as developing zero-cement sidewalk blocks that do not use any cement at all, reducing carbon emissions by about 70%.
Samsung C&T explained, "The carbon reduction methodology not only dispels concerns about greenwashing (corporate activities disguised as eco-friendly efforts), which has recently become an issue, but also will play a significant role in the use of carbon-reducing materials and greenhouse gas reduction across the construction industry."
It is expected that applying this technology will result in an additional carbon reduction effect of 0.1 tons per 1㎥ compared to ordinary concrete. It is also significant in that it lays the foundation for securing carbon emission rights to achieve carbon neutrality.
Taesung Ho, Director of the Carbon Neutral Smart Building Center at Hanyang University, said, "In a situation where there is a lack of policy incentives for cement substitutes, Samsung C&T's approval of the carbon reduction methodology is meaningful in terms of decarbonizing building materials."

Jung Hojin, Vice President and Head of Quality at Samsung C&T, stated, "The significance of this approval lies in receiving official certification for a sustainable carbon reduction methodology rather than a one-time effort. We expect this to not only enhance trust in our technology but also have a positive impact on various eco-friendly projects domestically and internationally in the future."
