The Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Project Association, Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall, and Kim Gu Foundation will perform the creative pansori "Baekbeom Kim Gu" to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea and the March 1st Movement. The performance will take place on March 1st at 3 PM in the convention hall of the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall and can be heard through the voices of master singers Wang Gi-seok, Woo Ji-yong, and Im Jin-taek.
The pansori "Baekbeom Kim Gu" is a creative pansori that depicts the turbulent life of Baekbeom Kim Gu. It covers Kim Gu's life as the chairman of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, who worked to prevent the division of the homeland and the establishment of separate governments in South and North Korea after independence and liberation, and who ended his life by the bullet of Ahn Doo-hee. Based on Baekbeom Kim Gu's autobiography "Baekbeom Ilji," master singer Im Jin-taek personally wrote the pansori script and composed the jangdan (rhythmic patterns).
This work was produced in 2009 in collaboration with the Kim Gu Foundation on the 60th anniversary of Baekbeom's passing. It is composed of three parts: Part 1 "Youth Journey," Part 2 "Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea," and Part 3 "Liberation Era," and has been continuously performed since then.
