Trump's Humiliation... Ranked Last in U.S. Presidents' Historical Achievement Evaluations
In a survey evaluating the achievements of past U.S. presidents conducted among American political experts, former President Donald Trump, a leading candidate in the upcoming November presidential election, ranked last at 45th place. President Joe Biden was ranked 14th.
According to The Hill on the 18th (local time), the University of Houston and Coastal Carolina University conducted the "2024 Great Presidents Project" survey from November 15 to December 31 last year, targeting 525 political experts including members of the American Political Science Association (APSA). The response rate was 29.3%.
In this survey, President Biden scored 62.66 out of 100, placing 14th among 45 current and former presidents. This ranking is higher than that of the 28th president Woodrow Wilson (61.8 points, 15th) and the 40th president Ronald Reagan (61.62 points, 16th).
On the other hand, former President Trump scored only 10.92 points, ranking last. His score was about 6 points lower than that of the 15th president James Buchanan, who ranked 44th.
However, there were criticisms that even President Biden’s relatively high ranking had clear limitations. It was explained that his favorable evaluation was not due to his own achievements but rather because he defeated former President Trump in the last election. Brandon Rottinghaus, a professor at the University of Houston, and Justin Vaughn, a professor at Coastal Carolina University, who conducted the survey, said, "Biden’s most important achievement is taking the presidency away from Trump, restoring traditional presidential leadership style, and preparing to defend his position from his predecessor (Trump) this fall."
