Two Foreigners Tracked by Police After Parachuting from 99th Floor of Busan LCT
Suspected 'Base Jumping' from Famous Skyscraper
Two Russians Fined for Gliding from LCT 5 Years Ago
Two men, presumed to be foreigners, were confirmed to have parachuted down from the 99th floor of LCT, a supertall building in Haeundae-gu, Busan, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
On the 18th, the Busan Haeundae Police Station announced that they are tracking the whereabouts of two men, presumed to be foreigners, on suspicion of trespassing. They are suspected of secretly entering the LCT building in Jung-dong, Haeundae-gu, Busan, around 7 a.m. on the 15th. At that time, the police responded to a report stating, "Someone jumped down from LCT wearing a parachute," but they were unable to find the individuals.
Completed in November 2019, LCT is a 101-story building with a height of 411 meters, making it the second tallest building in South Korea after the Lotte World Tower in Jamsil, Seoul. The police believe the men jumped from the 99th floor, where an observatory is located. It is highly likely that they are so-called 'BASE jumping' experts who parachute from famous skyscrapers around the world.
Meanwhile, in 2019, two Russians were fined for trespassing after jumping from high-rise buildings in Haeundae, including LCT. Three days after entering South Korea, they illegally accessed the rooftop of a 40-story officetel building in Haeundae-gu, Busan, parachuted toward the rooftop of a nearby large supermarket, and the next day, they trespassed onto the rooftop of a hotel near Haeundae Station on the urban railway and jumped again.
The police suspended their departure for 10 days and launched an investigation. Eventually, they were allowed to leave the country after depositing a fine of 5 million won. However, the bigger issue was that immediately after leaving the country, they themselves revealed additional offenses, claiming they had also jumped from the rooftop of LCT. Russian A posted on his social media (SNS) a photo taken while looking down at the sea from the 101st floor rooftop of LCT along with the caption, "Now I can reveal it. Before the jump from 413 m (height of LCT building), a smooth landing," indirectly indicating that he had jumped from the rooftop. Trespassing on buildings is punishable by up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 5 million won, and at that time, the prosecution imposed the maximum fine on them.

Their SNS contained posts showing them jumping from factories, buildings, cliffs, and other locations in various countries over several years. One year before jumping from LCT, they glided from the rooftop of Beijing's 'China Zun,' the tallest building in China at 518 meters, and were punished with 10 days of detention. Nevertheless, a few months later, they filmed themselves gliding from a building in Guangzhou, China, and posted it on SNS, repeatedly committing the same acts.
